Fordley North Tyneside, a group on Flickr.

Out for a afternoon walk, hardly saw or heard anything except one obliging Robin who posed for me in a bush in the distance I saw the usual pheasants running and flying for cover. There was only a few gulls on the flood pond in a nearby farmers field.

Nearer to home there was a load of Goldfinch in a tree a pair of Mallard in the Burn. Also a brown bird flew fast and low through the plantation I had the impression of some sort of hawk but I lost sight of it in the trees.

A local passer by told me that they had seen woodpeckers in the trees near where I was standing only saw crows, pigeons and Blue Tit and the Mallard in the plantation.

Back to work

What a shame after a week off with cold cloudy damp morning's today there is a clear blue sky, and to make matters worse a flock of Canada geese flew honking overhead.

I've spent the last few mornings going to Arcot near Cramlington in Northumberland. On my first visit I saw a fox a pair of rabbits and a small group of Roe Deer. I have seen deer tracks just about everywhere in the fields surrounding the lake but I think the best place for viewing the area is by a gate next to the lake. I've also seen a Grey Heron standing by the lake side.

On my last visit of the week there was a lot of commotion in the water and what I first took for the Coot fighting was in fact the birds starting to mate.

Blackbirds

A few weeks ago when I started birding in the garden. I had a male and female Blackbird in the garden there's now about half a dozen using my garden.  Also yesterday there was one starling feeding in my garden today there was two both on the same fat ball feeder.

Garden birds

Today my garden population expand yet again I mentioned in a earlier blog that starlings had arrived in my garden today there was three of them feeding on fat balls and peanuts.  Also a woodpecker arrived in my tree he did not stay in the tree long or take any food but flew to a nearby garden tree I think a woodpecker is one of the more exotic birds to get in the garden.

Aso added suet and meal worm pellets and black sunflower seed and sunflower hearts to add variety to the food.

In the garden

I have bought a feeding station to hang my bird feeders on there seems to be much more activity now as the birds use it for a perch while flying from one feeder to the next. Today a Starling was feeding on the fat balls two Jackdaws were in the tree but they did not come down to feed.
